The City of Talisay, in cooperation with the Talisay City Youth Development Commission and Talisay City Junior Drug Watch holds the Paskohanong Huni sa Dakbayan, an inter school daygon contest at the People’s Hall, City Hall of Talisay, Talisay City.
Talisay City Administrator and Chair of the Talisay City Junior Drug Watch Richel N. Bacaltos believes that it’s been a tradition of Filipinos to carol or “daygon” in the season of Christmas. This is also one way of showcasing the youth of Talisay’s talent and keep them away from any hazardous act.
Among the participating schools were San Roque National High School, Candulawan National High School, Tanke National High School, Talisay City Science High School, Talisay City National High School, Bulacio National High School, Mohon National High School, Maghaway National High School and Cansojong Technical Vocation High School.
Interestingly, the 5-time champions Rhythm and Music Choristers of Talisay City presented their winning piece during the Gwen Garcia Provincial Daygon Contest held last December 10, 2010 at the Provincial Capitol, Cebu City. When they were asked why were they able to defend their title for almost half a decade now, they proudly answered: discipline, constant practice and pray.
After the nine amazing and merry performances of participating schools, Talisay City Science High School won the first place. They receive P6,000 cash, trophy and a certificate. Maghaway National High School and Bulacao National High School received P4,000 and P3000 respectively. The other schools received P1,500 as a consolation and certificates.
